OSNAP Goal

Reduce Screen Time

Eliminate broadcast and cable TV and movies. Limit computer and digital device use to homework or instructional time.

About this goal

Cutting the time kids spend in front of the TV or computer is a great step for making your program a healthier place!

Every day, 8- to 18-year-olds spend more than 5 hours on screen entertainment. Too much screen time is linked to unwelcome health harms.

If you currently show TV in your program, replace this with physically active games or other non-screen activities like board games, cards, or arts and crafts. The key to successfully reducing screen time is to replace that time with activities that kids like!
